Cold Sassy Tree, by Olive Ann Burns is the February reading selection for Rippey area readers. Discussion of the book will be held on Monday March 3rd at 7:00 PM at the Rippey Library.

This is a work of fiction, about love and death that is funny as well as touching. Just a little less than 400 pages, it is an enjoyable read, depicting various characters living in a small-town Southern community in the early 1900’s.

The big whirlpool event of the book is centered on the day E. Rucker Blakeslee, proprietor of the general store, and barely a widower for three weeks, elopes with a woman half his age, and worse yet, a YANKEE!!

These books are on loan to the Rippey Library from the Nevada Library, and we only have 6, so come in now to check them out, as we may have to “double” up in reading them prior to the discussion date of March 3rd.

Reading this book will be a diversion from the cold miserable Iowa weather and the discussion will be enjoyable and social, as we may link some of the book’s characters to those who are or who have previously lived in our community.

Toni will have the library open for you on Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons and on Saturday mornings so you may check out this selection for February’s reading.

A Valentine Party will be held at the Rippey Library from 3:30-5:00 pm on Wednesday, February 13.   All elementary students are invited to attend.   There will be games, crafts and treats.

A Soup Cook Off will be held at the Library on Saturday, February 23 from 10 am until noon.  Last years' Cook Off was a great success for both the contestants and those present for the "sampling" and judging.

Please note a slight change of Library hours:  Monday 1-6 pm, Wednesday 1-5 pm, Friday 1-5 pm and Saturday 10 am until noon.
