Rippey Library News

August 4, 2012

The Rippey Library has recently purchased several new books for the young adults, teens and tweens set.  For the students entering the "dreaded middle school" for the first time, there are two books by James Patterson that would be just the books to read--"Middle School Get Me Out of Here" and "Middle School The Worst Years of My Life"!  Also for the teen set is a set of three books by John Grisham entitled  "Theodore Boone, Kid Lawyer, Theodore Boone, The Abduction, and Theodore Boone, The Accused". For the young adults, there is a new book by Jodi Picoult and her daughter," Between the Lines".  Everyone who loves Dr Seuss  will welcome the new addition of "Oh The Places We'll Go" by the favorite author. Other books for the youngsters include "Double Trouble Groundhog Day"by Bethany Roberts, and "There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed a Clover" by Lucille Calandro.

The Rippey Library hosted the summer reading program “Beyond Your Wildest Dreams”, on Friday July 27 in the community room.  Twenty eight attended to see Daniel Poe present several fairy tales with the youngsters portraying the characters in each tale while wearing props made of balloons.

Even Toni the librarian made her stage debut as the Fairy Godfather, “Rocky” to the great amusement of the audience. Everyone had a good time and commented this was one of the best programs so far! This program was made possible by a grant from the Greene County Supervisors for a cooperative project involving all six of the county libraries.

Beginning August 9, all patrons are encouraged to come in to pick up their new library cards and fill out the proper paperwork.  Anyone under the age of 18 must have a parent present to verify permission before getting their card.  The new cards will all be laminated and have a bar code identifying the user which can be scanned at checkout time and help create reports for the library. Everyone getting their new card from August 9 to August 31 will be entered into a drawing for a $25.00 gift card. The Drawing will be held on September 1.
