William Ralph Downs

William Ralph Downs was born on April 13, 1937 at Vanworth to Ralph William Downs and Ida (Thomas) Downs.

He worked as a farmer and then worked at a foundry in Boone and then the Progressive Foundry in Perry. He also repaired lawn mowers. He met Sylvia Christensen and they were married in 1955.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Ida Downs; a son, William Ralph Downs III, and two daughters, Cindy Sue Downs and Susan Schettler.

He is survived by wife, Sylvia Downs, of Perry; two sons, Randy Downs and his wife Charity of Des Moines and Arnold Downs of Wisconsin; five daughters, Elizabeth Ida Downs of Des Moines, Tonette and her husband Craig Bahrenfuss of Webster City, Mitzi Balsley of Webster City, Linda Downs of Fort Dodge; a daughter-in-law Wendy Downs from Fort Dodge; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two sisters, Shirley and her husband Jay Artsinger of Indianola and Barbara Woods of St. Charles.

Graveside services for William Downs, 70, of Perry were held Saturday, July 7, at 1:30 p.m. at Immanuel Cemetery in Adair. William died on Wednesday, July 4, 2007 at the Perry Lutheran Home in Perry.
