Catherine Maxine Stevens

Services were held Friday, Jan. 26, at the Slininger-Rossow Chapel in Jefferson for Catherine Maxine Stevens, 92, of Jefferson, former longtime Rippey area resident.

Bruce Webster of the Church of Christ in Jefferson officiated. Debra McGinn was soloist, with Monica McGregor as accompanist. Casket bearers were Randy Riley, Greg, Blake, Chris and Chad Stevens, and Bill Wisecup. Interment was in Rippey Cemetery.

Catherine Maxine Riley Stevens was born Dec. 6, 1914, at Rippey. She was the daughter of B. M. "Max" Riley and Grace King Riley.

Maxine graduated from Rippey High School in 1932. She married H. S. "Steve" Stevens at Leon in 1937. They made their home on a farm three miles sough of Rippey. They became the parents of two sons.

Maxine did clerical work at Rippey Savings Bank, and then was a clerk at Stevens and Kelly Sale Barn in Rippey. Later she became office manager at Stevens & Sons Machinery Auction.

In 1965 Maxine was hired by Hank Parker to be the office manager at Parker Industries in Jefferson. Later she became the western division sales manager for Parker Industries. She retired in 1985.

In 1991 Maxine and her husband entered long term care at Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson. Steve died in 1993.

Maxine Stevens died Jan. 20, 2007. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Captain James "Dennis" Stevens and her brother Edward Riley.

Survivors include her son Max Stevens of Tallahassee, FL; five grandchildren, Blake Stevens of Houston, TX, Allison McGhy of Johnston, Chris Stevens and Chad Stevens, both of Tallahassee, Fl, and Greg Stevens of Ocean Springs, MS and five great-grandchildren.
